New Yorkers value fairness, justice, and equal opportunity. But our broken justice system is undermining these values.
The practice of targeting the poor harms communities, particularly communities of color, who are disproportionately targeted by "Stop & Frisk", "Solitary Confinement and older practices that set the precedent like 'Broken Windows' policing a scar for generations to come.
No one should be held in jail simply because they cannot afford to buy their freedom and no one should be forced or persuaded into taking a plea bargain through fear tactics that are in actuality torture.
Why do we continue these practices? What are the outcomes?, and What can we do to put an end to this Now?
We spark "tough" conversations between the community for multiple purposes; to open the lines of communication and hold space for those greatly impacted by injustice(s) in order to find resolution and/or seek equity.
